Stop Mare Mortum

Since august 2016, the Hellenic League for Human and Civil Rights, in collaboration with Spanish organization “Stop Mare Mortum”, has been providing tailored legal advice and legal aid to asylum seekers, the majority of whom are Syrians, but also Iraqis and Afghans, living both in formal hospitality structures as well as elsewhere, most of whom have submitted requests for relocation and/or family reunification to other European Union member states.

The broader goals of the programme are the strengthening of asylum seekers’ position through the provision of tailored legal advice and through their legal representation to responsible authorities, as well as the documenting and highlighting of important issues pertinent to the refugee crisis.

Moreover, the above mentioned activities support the actions of the Spanish organization visavis the responsible Spanish and Greek authorities, with a view to accelerating the relocation of asylum seekers wishing to relocate to Spain from Greece via the current European relocation mechanism.
