Statement by the Hellenic League for Human Rights on the closure of Deutsche Welle’s Greek Service

The Hellenic League for Human Rights (HLHR) expresses its concern over the decision to discontinue the Greek Service of Deutsche Welle after more than six decades of operation.

For many years, Deutsche Welle’s Greek-language service has been an important source of reliable and independent journalism, contributing to media pluralism and informed public debate in Greece. At a time when safeguarding media freedom and pluralism remains a key democratic priority across Europe, the loss of such a longstanding international journalistic voice is a matter of serious concern.

HLHR underlines the importance of maintaining strong and independent international public media in Europe and calls for this decision to be reconsidered.
