The upgrading of the legal aid system in Greece, through which an essential and effective defense will be provided, will empower citizens and function as an extra tool in the safeguarding of the proper administration of justice. It will contribute to ensuring in practice the right of access to justice and legal protection of the most vulnerable citizens and therefore, will safeguard their rights, combat inequalities and ensure social cohesion.

At the same time, the recording and utilization of comparative information and statistical data as well as an evidence-based approach (observation – extraction of data – publication – debate – advocacy) will be also useful as a tool for reaching conclusions and formulating proposals in relation to the institution of legal aid as well as other fields of civil and administrative justice.

Informing the general population on the terms and procedures for accessing legal aid through a practical guide will additionally contribute to the early referral of citizens to legal aid services, to the fast and effective administration of justice as well as the essential defense of their rights.
